Abstract

Puerarin is a naturally occurring isoflavone lavishly present in the genus Pueraria such as Pueraria lobata and Pueraria mirifica. It has tremendous antioxidant, anti-inflammatory potency and greatly influence the expression of Nrf-2. The current review present the contribution of Nrf-2 in facilitating the neuroprotective effect of puerarin in intracerebral haemorrhage Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases. Furthermore the cardioprotective, anti-hypertensive, antidiabetic, antiaging and antiobesity impact of puerarin mainly via the Nrf-2 pathway was also elucidated. Taken together, puerarin could be a potential natural product that would play a key role in drug discovery
