Abstract
Food insecurity is a global problem, and recent evidence posits that resilience is critical in bolstering household food security. This study therefore examined the effects of farm household resilience on food security in Kwara state, Nigeria. Data were collected from 220 respondents through a multistage sampling procedure. An ordered probit model was used to examine the effects of farm household resilience index on food security. The study revealed that 28.6%, 52.7% and 18.6% of households were food insecure, moderately food secure and food secure, respectively. The result showed that farm household resilience index has a positive effect on food security. Also, farm size, extension visits and access to credit were positively and significantly related to food security, while education, household size and marital status negatively affected food security. The study recommends policies that would improve farm households’ resilience to food insecurity.
