Abstract
This paper discusses distance learning in Nigeria and the role of the virtual library. Literatures were reviewed from similar studies. The history of distance learning and the impact of technology on higher education were discussed. The paper also looked at the role of libraries in providing a variety of services, resources and technology needed to support this steadily growing facet of the academic institution. It also examined the virtual library as a critical element in distance learning education. The advantages and problems of distance learning programmes and the place of virtual library in solving these problems were a/so discussed. It was found that virtual library plays an important role in distance learning education and based on these findings, recommendations were made
