Abstract
Mining has its benefits and effects especially on the people living in communities where minerals are found. This paper tries to identify and assess the impacts and effects of illegal mining (galamsey). The main impacts identified are on economic activities, health, social life and employment while the effects include those on economic activities, health, social life, environment, agriculture and education. It was then recommended that both the government and the public sector should legalize the galamsey as well as encourage them by means of assisting them financially.
