Abstract

Severalwastescanbeinstrumentalintheimprovementofthe mechanical propertiesofmediumcarbonsteelwhenquenched. The quenchingmediaemployedsuchascoconutwater(CW),pap water(PW)andspentengineoil(SPE)havebeenlargelycon- sidered aswastes.Thedatainthisarticlearerelatedtothe researcharticletitled “Mechanical PropertiesImprovementEva- luation ofMediumCarbonSteelsQuenchedinDifferentMedia” (Ikubanni etal.,2017) [1]. Thearticleprovidesinformationonthe mechanical propertiesevaluationofmediumcarbonsteelquen- ched indifferentmedia.Twenty-seven(27)samplesofmedium carbon steelsampleswereheatedtotemperaturesof730 °C, 760 °C and790 °C andsoakedfor30,45and60minrespectively. The testresultsrecordedincludehardnessvalue,yieldstrength (YS) andtheultimatetensilestrength(UTS)foreachofthesam- ples atdifferentheatingtemperaturesandsoakingtimeforthe different quenchingmedia.
